3 minute read

Chris Scholtz reviews Sydney and provincial barrier trials at Randwick (May 5); Gosford (May 5) and Rosehill (May 8).

ROSEHILL May 8

Inside Grass; Good 4

10 Heats; 3 x 1030m (2 Open; 1 Maiden); 7 x 900m (1 Open; 4 2YO; 1 3YO Fillies; 1 3YO C & G)

Good track in contrast to the softer conditions we saw at Randwick earlier in the week.

Strong heat wins came from PINVINCIBLE; SECRETLY AWESOME; HULK; SUPERBELLAA, HEAD LEGISLATOR, LE VIZIR and the imported mare INVINCIBLE DIVA.

NOTED TRIALS

X Pinvincible; Secretly Awesome; Mangione; Sure Knee; Stormy Rock; Hulk; Care To Think; Fiesta; Superbellaa; Zelify; Head Legislator; Conscript; Le Vizir; Fly Slip; Invincible Diva; Hyannis Port; Nebula

RANDWICK May 5

Randwick A Grass; Soft 7

14 Heats; 1 x 1200m (Open); 7 x 1050m (2 Open; 3 2YO; 2 Maiden); 6 x 742m (1 Open; 4 2YO; 1 Maiden)

A set that will set the platform for many horse building into winter campaigns with results dominated by runners from the Snowden and Waterhouse/Bott stables. Soft conditions saw riders avoiding the inside section with the better ground closer to the outsider rail. The pattern favoured horses running home in the better ground out wide.

NOTED TRIALS

X About To Launch; All Cylinders; Angel Helena; Armatree; Bergen; Camerlengo; Explosive Truth; Falcon; Garrison; Le Gai Soleil; Legend Rules; Lost And Running; Military Magic; Military Zone; Miravalle; Mr Dependable; Narvaez; Romantic Whisper; Social Distancing; Supercede; Supremo; Tepario; Tommy Gold; Wayupinthesky

GOSFORD May 5

Course Proper; Good 4

19 Heats – 1 x 1200m (Open); 5 x 1000m (4 Open; 1 Maiden); 13x 800m (3 Open; 7 2YO; 3 Maiden)

Some notable Group horses appeared in several heats while the 2YOs and maiden heats featured some worthwhile performances.

Kris Lees looks in a good place with some of his classier types after good trials from MISS FABULASS, DELECTATION GIRL, SIXTIES GROOVE and ICONIC STAR, the latter winning the fastest of the open heats over 800m (47.35; 33.90) with something in reserve. Brad Widdup would also have been happy with the last 300m sprint by SANDBAR to win his 800m heat (58.57; 34.87).

Kim Waugh's 2YO newcomer BLACK JACAMAR was an impressive all the way winner of his 800m heat (48.70; 35.06). There was also  a lot to like about the easy placings from MEADOW LAND and TYCOONIST in the fastest 2YO heat won by the speedy FEELING MIGHTY (48.21;34.70). Wellington Boot winner ZEFTABROOK and stablemate NO LAUGHING MATTER also impressed behind RAHNI FACTOR in their slower 800m heat (49.64; 35.55).

Maidens to impress included the Kim Waugh stablemates GREAT NEWS and KNIGHT, who performed admirably against classy winners in open 800m heats. VULPINE also impressed winning his 800m maiden heat.
