Legend Racing’s Sniper Legend breaks his maiden at Hawkesbury

Sniper Legend (2 g ex Lady Sniper by Snippetson) provided his sire, Newgate Farm’s first season sire Capitalist (Written Tycoon), with his 19th winner on Tuesday when he broke his maiden at Hawkesbury over 1100 metres.

Having his second career start and first since being gelded, Sniper Legend went straight to the front and maintained that position to the line beating three-year-old filly A Land Of (Foxwedge) by a length and a half. Charlemagne (Real Impact) was another two and three quarters of a length away in third.

Bred by SF Bloodstock and partners, Sniper Legend is the first foal out of stakes winning mare Lady Sniper (Snippetson). He was sold from the draft of Newgate Farm to Mitchell Bloodstock for $170,000 at last year’s Inglis Classic Yearling Sale and was then bought by Bon Ho at the Ready2Race Sale later in the year when offered by Glenn Haven Thoroughbreds.

Lady Sniper is herself a half-sister to Listed winners Easy Landing (Mister C) and Misty Dawn (Mister C) and she was sold, not in foal having missed to I Am Invincible (Invincible Spirit), to Daandine Stud and Boomer Bloodstock at last month’s Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale.

Capitalist heads the leading first season sires table in Australia by winners while he sits just over $200,000 in prize money behind his barnmate Extreme Choice (Not A Single Doubt) in the table by earnings.

He covered a book of 238 mares at Newgate Farm last year for a fee of $44,000 (inc GST) and will stand the upcoming season for $99,000 (inc GST).
