Coolmore Stud-based stallion Pride Of Dubai (Street Cry) consolidated his lead at the head of the leading first-season sire table when he sired his sixth winner on Friday, courtesy of True Mettle's (2 c ex Helsingor by Dane Shadow) victory in the Tab Long May We Play Maiden Plate (1000m) at Cranbourne.
Trained by Dean Grass, the two-year-old colt surged clear at the line to beat Phere Her (Exosphere) by three-quarters of a length with the same distance back to Difficult (All Too Hard) in third.
The colt was purchased by his trainer in partnership for $26,000 as a weanling at the Inglis Great Southern Sale and then failed to make his reserve at both the Inglis Premier Yearling Sale and the Inglis Ready 2 Race Sale.
True Mettle is out of Helsingor (Dane Shadow), who is herself a three-quarter sister to Myer Classic (Empire Rose Staes) (Gr 1, 1600m) winner Hurtle Myrtle.
The colt's second dam is Peace Academy (Royal Academy), who is herself a three-quarters sister to Listed winner Whisper Bay (Royal Academy) - the dam of Listed winner Indian Thunder (Manhattan Rain).
Helsingor was purchased by Kingstar Farm for $37,500 at the Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale in 2018 from the Makybe draft.
The colt's Astern (Medaglia d'Oro) half-brother was purchased by P Morgan and Gall Bloodstock for $120,000 at last week's Inglis Premier Yearling Sale, catalogued as Lot 206. The mare produced a Winning Rupert (Written Tycoon) filly last season.
The Coolmore Stud sire has nine lots catalogued at the Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale, which begins its two-day run on April 7.
