The Kris Lees-trained Irish Thunder (2 g ex Tiger's Girl by Tiger Hill) got his career off to the best possible start when he broke his maiden in the Kennards Hire Taree Maiden Handicap (1000m) at Taree on Tuesday and in the process became former shuttler Night Of Thunder's (Dubawi) fifth winner in Australia.

The two-year-old gelding hit the line strongly to beat Dr Copper (Sizzling) by a length and quarter with another three and three quarter lengths further back to The Spell (Rubick) in third.

Irish Thunder is the only winner out of Tiger Hill (Danehill) mare Tiger's Girl, who is herself out of two-time winner River Lena (Spectrum).

River Lena herself is out of Listed winner Insijaam (Secretariat), making her a half-sister to Group 3 winners Maputo (Cape Cross) and Pictava (Sindaar).

In 2019 Tiger's Girl foaled a colt by Palentino (Teofilo) and she was covered again in October by the Sun Stud resident.

Night Of Thunder's Australian-bred crop is headed by stakes-winning duo Beautiful Night and River Night. The son of Dubawi's (Dubai Millennium) fine record of five winners in the country is made even more impressive given he has only had ten starters.
