Written Tycoon (Iglesia) - who will relocate to Arrowfield Stud in the Hunter Valley in 2020 - sired his 34th stakes winner on Saturday when the Team Hawkes-trained Dirty Work (3 c ex Maidel by Ad Valorem) landed the Ortensia Stakes (Listed, 1100m) at Rosehill.

From a rails draw, Tommy Berry had Dirty Work camped behind the leading division and the colt was able to slice through the field to come away with a two and a half length win over Star Boy (Pluck).

Berry said the Spendthrift Australia-raced colt had come on a lot this preparation: "If you had told me he was going to do this at the end of his last prep, I wouldn't have believed you," Berry said.

"Even from the horse I rode two starts ago to today, the difference is chalk and cheese."

Purchased by Spendthrift Farm for $800,000 at the Inglis Australian Easter Yearling from the Sledmere Stud draft, the colt is out of dual-winning mare Maidel (Ad Valorem), who is herself a half-sister to Group 3 winner Gamay (Pierro), while she also counts Listed winner Meidung (Bernardini) as one of her half siblings. Meidung herself produced Group 2 winner Banish (Lonhro).

Further back this is the family of dual Group 2 winner Pinwheel (Lonhro).

Maidel's Star Witness (Starcraft) filly was purchased by trainer Neville Begg for $50,000 at the 2019 Inglis Premier Yearling Sale, while Dirty Work's sister realised $18,000 when selling to Steve Daniels on the Inglis Digital December Sale last year.

In 2019 Madiel produced a brother to Dirty Work, while the mare has most recently been covered by Newgate Farm's Golden Slipper Stakes (Gr 1, 1200m) winning sire Capitalist (Written Tycoon).

Having stood his whole career at Woodside Park Stud in Victoria, Written Tycoon will stand at Arrowfield Stud in 2020, where he will command a fee of $77,000 (inc GST).
