The Oaks Stud resident Darci Brahma (Danehill) sired his 47th stakes winner on Saturday courtesy of Trumbull's (4 g ex Pride And Passion by Encosta De Lago) victory in the Civic Stakes (Listed, 1350m) at Rosehill.

The Kim Waugh-trained four-year-old gelding stayed on well to beat Order Again (Iffraaj) by a length with another neck back to Dealmaker (Dundeel) in third.

Trumbull's preparation has been thwarted by barrier issues and Waugh said it was satisfying to see the gelding overcome the issues and land his first stakes race.

"Finally. We have had such a frustrating run with him this whole preparation, he has just developed this silly habit," Waugh said.

"We've given him a bit of barrier practice at home. I just said to Tommy (Berry), hold his tail up like we did last week and give him a big kick in the belly, let him know you mean business.

"He's done my head in the last six weeks but it's a big thrill when you put so much work into them and everything keeps going wrong but you finally get a result for the owners."

Purchased as a yearling by O'Gorman Racing for $65,000 at the 2017 Inglis Classic Yearling Sale from the Sledmere Stud draft, Trumbull was then snapped up by his trainer for $125,000 at the Inglis Ready To Race Sale later that in the year.

The gelding is out of two-time winning Encosta De Lago (Fairy King) mare Pride And Passion making him a half-brother to Hawke's Bay Guineas (Gr 2, 1400m) winner Hard Merchandize (Burgundy).

Pride And Passion herself is out of 2002 Golden Slipper Stakes (Gr 1, 1200m) winner Calaway Girl (Clang), who produced five winners.

In 2016 Pride And Passion produced a filly by former shuttler Makfi (Dubawi), who is now named Pedestal and is yet to hit a racetrack.

The often underrated Darci Brahma has sired ten elite level scorers and he is set to stand the 2020 season for a fee of NZ$15,000 (plus GST).
