Vinery Stud-based stallion Headwater (Exceed And Excel) sired his seventh first-crop winner on Sunday when the Brett Cavanough-trained Water Dove (2 f ex She's Warrego by Giant's Causeway) came out on top of a close finish in the Wayne Mallison Painter Maiden Plate (1110m) at Dubbo.

The two-year-old just held on to beat Great Excitement (Bon Hoffa) by a head with another half a length back to Adios Steve (Night Of Thunder) in third.

Purchased by Damon Gabbedy's Belmont Bloodstock for $20,000 at the 2019 Inglis Classic Yearling Sale, Water Dove is out of winning Giant's Causeway (Storm Cat) mare She's Warrego, making her a half-sister to Group 3-placed Queen Of Wands (Not A Single Doubt).

She's Warrego herself is a half-sister to Listed winner View The Stars (Galileo) and stakes-placed Olympus (Danehill), while she is also a half-sister to the dam of Cambridge Breeders' Stakes (Gr 3, 1200m) winner Shees Flawless (Fully Fledged).

The filly's third dam produced Group 3 winner True Hero (The Minstrel) and the dam of Listed-winning duo Taiki Lion (Wild Again) and Taiki Dia (Ogygian), who is herself the grandam of NHK Mile Cup (Gr 1, 1600m) Clarity Sky (Kurofune) and Listed winner Clarity City (King Kamehameha).

Further back this is the family of Seiun Kosei (Admire Moon), who won Takamatsunomiya Kinen (Gr 1, 1200m) in 2017.

In 2019 She's Warrego produced a colt by Pariah (Redoute's Choice) and has most recently been covered by another son of Redoute's Choice (Danehill) in Swear.

Headwater's progeny is headed by Group 3 winner WisdomOf Water and he will stand at Vinery Stud for a fee of $13,750 (inc GST) in 2020.
