The Richard and Micheal Freedman-trained Gunnamatta (2 c ex Umaquest by Umatilla) ran out a ready winner of the Yes Yes Yes at Coolmore Maiden 2YO Handicap (1150m) at Randwick Kensington and in the process handed Vinery Stud-based sire Headwater (Exceed And Excel) with his seventh stakes winner.

Last seen running second on debut, the colt finished off well to beat Jimmy's Dream (Not A Single Doubt) by a neck with another half a length back to Sharpshooter (Hinchinbrook) in third.

"He spiked a temperature and missed a run last week, but he's turned up and won well today," Richard Freedman told Sky Racing.

"He's a lovely colt and probably wants a firmer surface and more ground."

Gunnamatta was purchased by Mitchell Bloodstock (FBAA) / McEnnis Racing for $80,000 out of the Stonehouse Thoroughbreds draft at the 2019 Inglis Premier Yearling Sale after he had been pinhooked by Stonehouse Thoroughbreds and Bill Thomas for $40,000 out of the Kambula Stud draft at the 2018 Magic Millions National Weanling Sale.

The colt is out of Listed winner Umaquest (Umatilla), making the colt a three-quarter brother to Group 3 winner Yattarna (Exceed And Excel), while he is a half-brother to Listed-placed Fromparis Withlove (Smart Missile).

Umaquest has now produced seven winners from eight foals to race and was most recently covered by Newgate Farm-based stallion Russian Revolution (Snitzel).

Headwater's progeny is headed by Group 3 winner Wisdom Of Water and he will stand at Vinery Stud for a fee of $13,750 (inc GST) in 2020.
