In breaking his maiden in the Superior Hire Cars Maiden 2YO Plate (1000m) at Kembla Grange on Thursday, On The Lead (2 c I Am Invincible - Marechal by General Nediym) provided a timely pedigree update for his Invader (Snitzel) weanling half-brother and his dam Marechal (General Nediym), who are both set be offered at the next week's Magic Millions Gold Coast National Sale.

The Michael and Richard Freedman-trained two-year-old colt - who was having the third start of his career - showed good acceleration to beat Virgo (Zoustar) by two and a quarter lengths with the same distance back to All That Sass (Hinchinbrook) in third.

Both Marechal and the Invader weanling will be offered as part of the Aquis Farm draft, with the mare catalogued as Lot 303, while the weanling will go through the ring as Lot 863

Marechal herself won as a two-year-old over 1000 metres and On The Lead becomes her second winner in as many foals to race, with her first being El Roca Trophy (Listed, 1200m) winner Cyber Attack (Shamexpress).

Marechal is a half-sister to multiple Group 1 winner Humidor (Teofilo), while further back this is the family of multiple Group 1 winner Habibti (Habitat).

Further afield this is the same family as dual Group 2 winner Lafleur (Zabeel) - the dam of Group 3 scorer Amaryllis (Red Ransom) and Listed winner Papilo (Redoute's Choice).

The colt also shares a page with German and Italian Group 1 winner Morshdi (Slip Anchor) and South African Grade 3 scorer Ilitshe (Fastnet Rock).

On The Lead was himself bought for $400,000 by Paul Moroney Bloodstock and Go Bloodstock at the 2018 Magic Millions National Weanling Sale.
