The Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott-trained Powder Day - a colt by Coolmore Stud-based sire Vancouver (Medgalia d'Oro) - landed the only juvenile trial over 794 metres at Warwick Farm on Friday.

The two-year-old colt was quick out of the gates, but had to be coaxed around the bend and after being asked for more up the the straight the colt showed a good attitude to glide to the front and post a length and a quarter victory over Jac's Legacy (Pierro) in a time of 46.81 seconds.

Bred by Jonathan Munz's GSA Bloodstock and purchased by his trainers for $160,000 at the Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale from the Bhima Thoroughbreds draft, the colt is out of winning Encosta De Lago (Fairy King) mare Stella Grace, who was purchased by Howson and Houldsworth and Dean Hawthorn Bloodstock for $300,000 at the, 2018 Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale carrying the colt in utero.

Stella Grace is the dam of two winners and she is herself a half-sister to dual Group 2 winner Shania Dane (Danehill) and Listed winner Scintillation (Danehill), while her sister Risk Aversion landed the Juanmo Stakes (Listed, 1200m) in 2012.

Stella Grace's other half-sister Danevade (Danehill) produced Listed winner Northwest Passage (So You Think), while her another half-sister Sequin (Lure) is the dam of Listed-winning trio Order Of The Sun (Encosta De Lago), Beauty (Smart Missile) and Get To Work (Snippets). Sequin is also the grandam of ARC Diamond Stakes (Gr 1, 1200m) winner Summer Passage (Snitzel).

Further back this is the same family as Group 2 winner Man From Uncle (Uncle Mo).

Last season Stella Grace produced a colt by Pariah (Snitzel) and she was covered by former Arrowfield Stud-based resident Scissor Kick (Redoute's Choice) last October.

Second-season sire Vancouver is standing at Coolmore Stud for a fee of $30,250 (inc GST).
