The Chris Waller-trained Kiku (3 f Zoustar - Atotori by Haradasun) shed her maiden status at the fourth attempt when she landed the Bowermans Furniture Maiden Handicap (1400m) at Rosehill on Friday.

The three-year-old daughter of Zoustar (Northern Meteor) was last seen finishing second on her seasonal debut over 1100 metres at Randwick and she clearly appreciated the step up in trip when she beat Solar Apex (Deep Impact) by a length and a quarter. The winner's stablemate Supreme Leader (I Am Invincible) was another two and a quarter lengths back in third.

Purchased by Denise Martin's Star Thoroughbreds for $300,000 at the 2019 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale from the Amarina Farm draft and they will offer her Divine Prophet (Choisir) half-sister at next year's edition of the Gold Coast sale. The filly is catalogued as Lot 67.

Kiku is herself out of unraced mare Atotori (Haradasun) - who died in March - and her progeny is headed by three-time Group 2 winner Zoutori (Zoustar).

Atotori is a daughter of Park Heiress (Sadler's Wells) and she is also the dam of Grade 3 scorer Castlesthorpe (Not A Single Doubt) and the dams of Group / Grade 3-winning pair Young Pretender (Oasis Dream) and Quiet Oasis (Oasis Dream), who in turn produced fellow Group 3 Lancaster House (Galileo).

The filly's third dam is Phoenix Stakes (Gr 1, 6f) winner Park Express (Ahonoora) - the dam of multiple Group 1-winning champion and now Darley sire New Approach (Galileo) and Group 3 winner Dazzling Park (Warning).

Further afield this is the same family Group 1 winners Alfred Nobel (Danehill Dancer) and Was (Galileo) as well as Group 3 scorer Douglas MacArthur (Galileo).

Zoustar stands at Widden Stud for a fee of $121,000 (inc GST) and he has 60 lots catalogued for the 2021 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale, while his first northern hemisphere bred foals hit the European sales circuit this year and he has 23 lots catalogued for the forthcoming Tattersalls December Foal Sale, which gets underway in Newmarket on December 25.
