Newgate Farm-based first season sire Winning Rupert (Written Tycoon) chalked up his first winner when his daughter Vienna Cruise  (2 f ex Vienna Queen by Jet Spur) shed her maiden tag at the third attempt in the Merry Xmas From Cluden Maiden 2YO Handicap (1000m) at Townsville on Tuesday.

Last seen running third at the same track on November 28, having finished eighth on debut, the Roy Chillemi-trained filly pulled clear to beat Craiglea Mia (Citiwyse) by a quarter of a length, while Beautiful Tune (Star Turn) was another head away in third.

Purchased by Group 1 Pty Ltd for $65,000 Magic Millions Gold Coast March Yearling Sale from the Kenmore Lodge, the filly is out of six-time winner Vienna Queen (Jet Spur), who was purchased by Kenmore Lodge for $47,500 at the 2018 Magic Millions National Broodmare when carrying the filly in utero.

The filly hails from the same family as dual Group 1 winner Chiamare (Claude).

In 2019 Vienna Queen produced a colt by Lyndhurst Farm-based sire Better Than Ready (More Than Ready), while this year she foaled a filly by Coolmore Stud resident Vancouver (Medaglia d’Oro) and was covered by Newgate Farm’s new stallion Cosmic Force (Deep Field).

Winning Rupert has had four runners in Australia to date and he has 18 lots catalogued at next month’s Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale, while the stallion has 11 lots set to go under the hammer at the Inglis Classic Yearling Sale.
