Lyndhurst Stud-based resident Better Than Ready (More Than Ready) sired his fifth stakes winner when the Desleigh Forster-trained Apache Chase (3 g ex Silken Whisper by Diesis) posted an impressive performance in the Vo Rogue Plate (Gr 3, 1400m) at Eagle Farm on Saturday.

Last seen finishing third in the Gold Edition Plate (Listed, 1200m), the gelding scooted clear to beat Gotta Kiss (Not A Single Doubt) by a length and three-quarters, while Oscar Zulu (Epaulette) was another length and a quarter away in third.

"He's a real serious horse this one," Forster said.

"The good thing about him is he makes his own luck. He gets out in front and loves to roll along.

"He has got a really high cruising speed this horse and he can quicken off the cruising speed.

"It looks as though he is going hard but he isn't and that's when you know he is going well.

"We set the target when he won those two races (in July and August) and then we were on the back burner because we didn't have enough prize-money.

"Taylor knows him really well and I thought he may have gone a bit slow during the mid-section last start, so today he let him roll along."

Purchased by Michael Sherrin for $50,000 at the 2019 Magic Millions Gold Coast March Yearling Sale from the draft of his breeder Eureka Stud, the gelding is out of winning Diesis (Sharpen Up) mare Silken Whisper, making him a half-brother to Group 2 winner and sire Churchill Downs (Danehill), who was placed dual Group 1 level on two occasions.

Further back, this is the same family as Listed-winning duo Yaguda (Green Desert) and Code Of Honour (Omega Code).

Silken Whisper was retired in 2018.

Apache Chase joins Alpine Edge, The Odyssey, Better Reflection and Jagged Edge as the stallion's other stakes winners and he will be represented by 16 youngsters at this month's Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale.
