In winning Tuesday’s Blue Diamond Preview (Listed, 1000m) at Caulfield, the Mathew Ellerton and Simon Zahra-trained General Beau (2 c ex Phosphorescence by Lonhro) became the 11th stakes winner for Darley’s Brazen Beau (I Am Invincible).

General Beau had not raced since finishing second in the Maribyrnong Trial (Listed, 1000m) at Flemington on October 3 and on Tuesday he dug deep to defeat Extreme Warrior (Extreme Choice), who Rosemont Stud bought into earlier this month, by a half length. Gulf Of Suez (Fighting Sun), who started the $3.40 favourite, was another length away in third.

"He's not in the Blue Diamond so that's a conversation we'll have to have but hopefully we'll get through a Prelude with him," Ellerton said.

"It looked like he was in a tricky spot on the home turn (today) and some of those out wider had a bit of momentum on him, but he was good enough to knuckle down and get the job done.

"He's really matured up fantastic from the spring. He had a really good break and he was a bit shin sore after his last run.

"Touch wood we've had a really faultless prep with him and hopefully he can make his way to a Prelude."

Bred and raced by Contract Racing, General Beau is the fourth foal out of the once-raced Lonhro (Octagonal) mare Phosphorescence. His second dam is Group 3 Nediym’s Glow (General Nediym) who is the dam of six winners including the stakes placed Double Jeopardy (Exceed And Excel).

Phosphorescence was covered by Brazen Beau again last October having produced a colt by Shamus Award (Snitzel).

Brazen Beau whose stakes winners include Group 2 winning pair Pretty Brazen and Colada has also produced seven stakes placegetters and has two lots catalogued for the forthcoming Inglis Classic Yearling Sale and 13 lots set to sell at the Inglis Premier Yearling Sale.

He stood for a fee of $49,500 (inc GST) in 2020.
