The John O’Shea-trained Lost And Running (Per Incanto) remained unbeaten when scoring a good first-up victory over 1000 metres at Warwick Farm on Wednesday.

Having his first start since, Lost And Running was taken to the front by James McDonald. Coming to the turn, he was joined by Marway who then took the lead on straightening. McDonald asked Lost And Running to quicken and the gelding responded well to go on and score an easy length and a half victory. Ocean Emperor (Written Tycoon) was second and Irish Angel (Not A Single Doubt) finished another length and a quarter away in third while Marway (Hemingway) managed to hold on for fourth.

Lost And Running, a $40,000 Inglis Premier Yearling Sale buy from the Blandford Lodge draft by his trainer, had not raced since last June and was returning from a knee operation. He had indicated that he had come through that well with two good barrier trials which saw him start as the odds-on favourite on Wednesday.

"Probably everyone expected him to win by further but he was very tradesman-like. He only does what he has to and he's just pure speed," McDonald said.

"He is a very exciting horse and for the work he did early, it was pretty incredible how he could accelerate off that.

"He feels very raw underneath you and fitness-wise, he's just going to come on."

O’Shea is confident that Lost And Running will continue to improve, especially as he gets out over further.

"He just does everything so very easily. He's got a big action," O'Shea said.

"When he gets out over a bit further you will really see a top horse, but he just needs to learn his craft and season up over the next few months and hopefully we get something towards the end of it."
