The Chris Waller-trained Green Flash (3 c Redoute's Choice - Top Cuban by Anabaa) - who was a $1 million yearling purchase - made a winning debut over 1200 metres at Newcastle on Friday.

Raced by Hermitage Thoroughbreds, the three-year-old colt looked green in the early stages, but after settling into his work glided round the outside and let down impressively to score a length victory over Luminoso (Nicconi), with the pair pulling well clear of the third-placed horse, Immaculacy (Dissident), who was another six and a quarter lengths further away in third.

The colt was purchased by his owners and trainer for $1 million at the 2019 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale from the Arrowfield Stud draft and he is out of the juvenile winning Anabaa (Danzig) mare Top Cuban.

Top Cuban has produced four other winners, headed by Group 3 scorer Havana (Starcraft) and Listed winner Diplomatico (Snitzel).

In 2019 Top Cuban produced a Pariah three-quarter sister to Green Flash, while last spring she foaled a filly another son of Redoute’s Choice (Danehill) in The Autumn Sun, who was also raced by Waller and Hermitage Thoroughbreds, and in November the mare was covered by the same stallion again.

There have been 22 named horses bred on the Redoute’s Choice / Anabaa cross, with 19 of them making it to the racetrack and 16 of them winners, headed by Group 2 winner Tango’s Daughter and Listed winner Come Hither.

Redoute’s Choice died in 2018 and nine yearlings from his last crop are set to go under the hammer at this year’s Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale.
