Former Arrowfield Stud shuttler Maurice (Screen Hero) sired his third winner in Australia on Tuesday when the Kim Waugh-trained Conrad (2 g ex No Comment by Danzero) got off the mark impressively at the second time of asking over 1200 metres at Wyong.

Last seen being narrowly beaten on debut at Canterbury on February 26, the two-year-old gelding jumped smartly and placed on the fence by James McDonald. The gelding kicked off the bend, to put daylight between him and his rivals in a matter of strides, to post an easy three and a quarter length victory over Mokulua (Redoute’s Choice). Maurice’s Medad - who is also by Maurice - was a further length and a half away in third.

Bred by Fadega and Mark Waugh, the gelding is the second winner out of dual-winning Danzero (Danehill) mare No Comment, who is herself a half-sister to dual Group 2 scorer Lucky Secret (Rubiton), while she is a sister to Group 3 winner Hinting.

In 2019 No Comment produced a colt by former Coolmore Stud shuttler No Nay Never (Scat Daddy), before foaling a colt by Widden Stud-based sire Your Song (Fastnet Rock) in 2020 and she has most recently been covered by Arrowfield Stud-based sire Pariah (Redoute’s Choice).

Maurice’s total winner count stands at 49, headed by Grade 3 winner Pixie Knight and also includes four stakes placegetters and due to the coronavirus pandemic the stallion did not return to Arrowfield Stud for the 2020 breeding season.

The stallion has four lots catalogued at the upcoming Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale, which gets underway in Sydney on April 6.
