The Peter and Paul Snowden-trained Najmaty (2 f ex Najoom by Northern Meteor) got her career off to the best possible start when she made a winning debut over 1000 metres at Randwick-Kensington on Wednesday.

Owned and bred by Emirates Park and ridden by James McDonald, the two-year-old filly jumped smartly from her wide gate and was settled four wide near the rear of the field. As they rounded the turn, McDonald asked the filly to extend and she responded in impressive fashion to strom past her rivals, eventually beating Sonnet Star (Star Turn) by a length and a quarter. Lovemetender (Testa Rossa) was another neck away in third.

The filly continues a good run for Emirates Park whose homebreds have handed the operation some good results recently, headed by Lightsaber (Zoustar) and Marboosha (Dream Ahead), who landed the VRC Sires’ Produce Stakes (Gr 2, 1400m) and Incognitus Stakes (Listed, 1100m) respectively last Saturday.

“I’d like to thank Emirates Park for entrusting her to us, we’ve been a fan of hers for a while now,” said Paul Snowden.

“Nothing really went right, but once she balanced up, she hit the line good. She’s still got a lot of growing and filling out to do, but she’ll make a great filly.

"We've been a fan of her for quite a while and it was good to see her get to the races like that

"We just wanted her to have a good day and a good experience.

"I think she'll make the grade."

The filly holds a nomination for the Percy Sykes Stakes (Gr 2, 1200m) at Randwick on April 10.

The daughter of I Am Invincible (Invincible Spirit) becomes the second winner out of 2015 Hawkesbury Guineas (Gr 3, 1400m) winner Najoom (Northern Meteor), who was herself purchased by Emirates Park for $225,000 at the 2013 edition of the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale.

Further back this is the same family as Listed scorers Upon This Rock (Fastnet Rock), Bhutane Dane (Danehill Dancer) and Gaze On (Intergaze).

After missing to I Am Invincible in 2019, Najoom foaled another filly by the Yarraman Park-based sire last Spring and she was covered by a Newgate Farm’s new stallion Tassort (Brazen Beau) last November.

The filly becomes I Am Invincible’s eighth juvenile winner in Australasia this season, with the octet headed by four stakes winners, including Group 2 winner Home Affairs and Imperatriz, who landed the Eclipse Stakes (Gr 2, 1200m) at Ellerslie on New Year’s Day.

The stallion has 53 lots catalogued at the upcoming Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale, which gets underway at Riverside Stables in Sydney on April 6.
