Vinery Stud-based first-season stallion Star Turn (Star Witness) sired his fourth winner on Sunday when the Steven O'Dea and Matthew Hoysted-trained Stellar Magic (2 f ex Al's Magic Miss by Magic Albert) got off the mark at the second time of asking over 1015 metres at Grafton.

Last seen finishing second on debut at Eagle Farm in October, the filly showed no ill-effects from the long layoff to beat Mabel (Dream Ahead) by two and a half lengths, while Vicky’s One (Super One) was a further length and three quarters away in third.

The filly was purchased by her trainer and Proven Thoroughbreds for $100,000 at last year’s Inglis Classic Yearling Sale from the draft of Yarraman Park and she is one of three winners out of Listed-placed mare Al’s Magic Miss (Magic Albert).

The filly’s second dam is stakes-placed Carlton Ace (Bianconi), making her a half-sister to fellow stakes-placed Carlton Forward (Charge Forward), while further back this is the same pedigree as Listed winner Carlton Spirit (Fraar).

Al's Magic Miss’ colt by I Am Invincible was purchased by Peter Moody for $190,000 at this year’s Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale, while last spring she produced a filly by I Am Invincible’s son Hellbent and she was covered by that same sire in September.

Star Turn’s first crop also includes dual winner Miss Hipstar and winning colt Pegasi, who placed third in the Inglis 2YO Millennium (RL, 1100m), while Astrologer placed third in the Breeders’ Plate (Gr 3, 1000m).
