Neasham also produces new stable prospects in Wisdom Of Water and Zaaki
Perth star Fabergino (Maschino) stepped out for the first time since being moved to Chris Waller’s stable and scored an easy trial win over 900 metres at Rosehill on Monday.
The multiple stakes winner jumped straight to the front and was never threatened and she looked to not only handle going in the Sydney direction, but also the wet underfoot conditions. The time for the trial was 54.72 seconds.
Fabergino was last week transferred from the Perth stables of Tiarnna Robertson to Waller’s yard for the purpose of preparing the horse for a potential Royal Ascot trip this June, with the King’s Stand Stakes (Gr 1, 5f) down the Ascot straight set to be her main target.
Meanwhile, Group 3 winner Wisdom Of Water (Headwater) posted an impressive victory in his 900 metre heat.
Having his first appearance in public for new trainer Annabel Neasham, the son of Headwater (Exceed And Excel) raced wide throughout the 900 metre contest and let down strongly in the straight to post a length and a quarter victory over Koonunga (Not A Single Doubt) in a winning time of 54.79 seconds.
Neasham was also represented at the trials by another new exciting prospect in the shape of British-bred Zaaki (Leroidesanimaux), who finished a good length and a quarter away from winner Lord Von Costa (Von Costa De Hero) in his 1030 metre trial. Olmedo (Declaration Of War) - who is also trained by Neasham - was another quarter of a length away in third.
A dual Group 3 winner in his native Britain, Zaaki was purchased by his trainer and Blandford Bloodstock’s Stuart Boman for 150,000gns at the Tattersalls Autumn Horses In Training Sale last year.
In terms of juvenile power, the morning belonged to Arrowfield Stud-based sire Snitzel (Redoute’s Choice), whose progeny won three of the juvenile heats, with the most impressive of the trio being the Gerald Ryan and Sterling Alexiou-trained filly Chaleur Bay.
After jumping well for the barriers, the filly found herself out on her own when she entered the home straight, eventually coasting to three and quarter length win over Never Been Kissed (Tivaci). The time was 55.39 seconds for the 900 metre jump-out.
Chaleur Bay was purchased by Sun Bloodstock for $340,000 at last year’s Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale from the Baramul Stud draft and is herself out of four-time winner Serenada (Encosta De Lago), making her a half-sister to Group 3 winner McLaren (Exceed And Excel).
Further back this is the same pedigree as Group 2-winning pair First Command (Commands) and Oneworld (Danehill Dancer).
In the previous heat, two other daughters of Arrowfield Stud’s four-time champion stallion Snitzel showed their class, with the Team Hawkes-trained Yearning beating the Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott-trained Chimes in their 900 metre heat.
Both racing in the Arrowfield silks, the pair raced toe to toe for much of the contest and were given an easy time, with Yearning eventually finishing a head in front of Chimes.
Yearning is the first foal out of 2014 Australian Oaks (Gr 1, 2400m) winner Rising Romance (Ekraar) and Arrowfield Stud will offer her second foal - who is also by Snitzel - as Lot 45 at the upcoming Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale.
Chimes, meanwhile, is the first foal out of winning Shamardal (Giant’s Causeway) mare Time Check, who is herself a daughter of Group 2 winner Alizes (Rory’s Jester) - the grandam of three-time Group 1 winner Alizee (Sepoy) and fellow Group 1 winner and now Darley-based sire Astern (Medaglia d’Oro).
