The Ciaron Maher and David Eustace-trained Crystal Bound (2 f Not A Single Doubt - Crystalised by Zabeel) made an instant impact on debut when she broke her maiden over 1000 metres at Moonee Valley on Friday Night.

Ridden by Jye McNeil, the filly jumped smartly from the barriers and raced in second on the fence. As the field entered the turn, Crystal Bound kicked off the bend and scampered away to post an emphatic six length victory over He’s Xceptional (Xtravagant). Taborca (Snitzel) was another head away in third.

Maher was unwilling to make plans on raceday, but said a trip to Sydney was not off the table for the daughter of Not A Single Doubt (Redoute’s Choice).

“That was a huge win, great for Glen and Peter Carrick who bred her up there at Noorilim (Stud),” Maher said.

“We gave her the one trial, she went well and we bought her here for a track gallop.

“I loved her (at the sales). Pete and Glen stayed in with Campbell Stott, who has a lot of horses in the stable, and it was great to get a win in his colours.

“She couldn’t have made a better start.”

Maher purchased the filly for $400,000 at last year’s Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale from the draft of breeders Glen and Peter Carrick of Noorilim Park. The filly is out of Group 3-placed Zabeel (Sir Tristram) mare Crystalised, who was herself purchased for a whopping $1.3 million at the 2010 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale.

Crystalised herself is out of Gin Player (Defensive Play), making her a half-sister to dual Group 1 winner Zarita (Pentire), Group 2 scorer Run Like The Wind (Pins) and Group 3 winner Joy And Fun (Cullen).

Further back this filly’s third dam is dual Group 3 scorer Gin Rhythm (Western Symphony).

Last Spring Crystalised foaled a filly by Darley Stud-based sire Impending (Lonhro) and was covered by Arrowfield Stud-based sire The Autumn Sun (Redoute’s Choice) last October.

Being out of a Zabeel mare, the filly is bred on the same cross as three stakes winners, headed by Group 1 winner Clearly Innocent.

Crystal Bound becomes the sixth juvenile winner of the season for the now pensioned Not A Single Doubt and the sextet is headed by Widden Stakes (Gr 3, 1100m) winner Mallory, who is set to line up in Saturday’s Golden Slipper Stakes (Gr 1, 1200m).

Not A Single Doubt is currently sitting at the head of Australia’s leading sires’ table by earnings, largely due to the exploits of The Everest (1200m) winner Classique Legend.
