Vinery Stud-based sire Star Turn (Star Witness) was handed his 13th first-crop winner on Friday when My Snow Queen (2 f ex Lionel Left Me by Casino Prince) broke her maiden at the third attempt over 1300 metres at Goulburn.

Trained by John Sargent, the two-year-old filly surged clear to post a three and a quarter length victory over Dinner (Choisir), while She’s Justified (Vancouver) was another head away in third.

My Snow Queen was purchased by J&J Thoroughbreds for $5,000 at the Inglis Great Southern Weanling Sale in 2019, before being bought by Jazcom Thoroughbreds for $4,500 via the Inglis Digital January Sale last year. The filly was then purchased by Austin Racing for $15,000 at the Inglis Scone Yearling Sale a few months later.

The filly is out of winning Casino Prince (Flying Spur) mare Lionel Left Me, who is herself a daughter of Group 3 scorer Amovatio (Al Maher). Further back this is the same family as Group 2 scorer Magneto (Scenic).

In 2019 Lionel Left Me produced a colt by Darley-based sire Impending (Lonhro), who was passed in at this year’ Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale after failing to make his $40,000 and the mare has most recently been covered by Newgate Farm-based sire Menari (Snitzel).

Star Turn’s 13 first-crop includes a winner in Hong Kong and he is sitting second behind Capitalist (Written Tycoon) in the race to become Australia’s champion first-season sire by number of winners.

The son of Star Witness’ (Starcraft) first crop includes Listed winner Miss Hipstar as well as the stakes performers Stellar Magic, Astrologer and Pegasi and he will stand the 2021 season for an unchanged fee of $16,500 (inc GST).
