Flying Tyrol gets off the mark at Goulburn

Flying Artie

Newgate Farm’s Blue Diamond Stakes (Gr 1, 1200m)-producing sire Flying Artie (Artie Schiller) was handed his eighth first-crop winner on Friday when Flying Tyrol (2 f ex Burgeis by Catbird) broke through for her first victory over 1000 metres at Goulburn.

Last seen running sixth at Warwick Farm on December 23, the John Thompson-trained two-year-old filly came out on top of a close finish to beat Shocking Force (Air Force Blue) by a nose, while Devine Miss (Headwater) was another quarter of a length away in third.

The filly is the third winner out of the Listed-winning Group 1-placed daughter of Catbird (Danehill) Burgeis and she is herself a half-sister to the dam of Listed winner Happy Cash (Time Thief).

Meanwhile, the filly’s third dam is Bourgeois (Luskin Star) and she in turn produced 2005 Golden Slipper Stakes (Gr 1, 1200m) winner and ill-fated sire Stratum (Redoute’s Choice) and Group 3 scorer Dystopia (Redoute’s Choice).

Burgeis died in 2018 - a day after foaling Flying Tyrol.

Flying Artie sits fourth in Australia’s leading first-season sire table by earnings, with barnmates Capitalist (Written Tycoon) and Extreme Choice (Not A Single Doubt) and Arrowfield Stud shuttler Shalaa (Invincible Spirit) ahead of him.

The son of Artie Schiller (El Prado) will stand the 2021 season for an increased fee of $33,000 (inc GST), having commanded a fee of $16,500 (inc GST) in 2020.
