Tsarina Sophia becomes the latest winner for the Newgate sire

Russian Revolution

Newgate Farm's Russian Revolution (Snitzel) who is leading the first season sires table by earnings, extended his lead at the top of the table by winners on Tuesday when the Gerald Ryan and Sterling Alexiou-trained Tsarina Sophia (2 f ex Precious Sophia by Cecconi) broke her maiden.

Under Tommy Sherry, the filly ran down Vinnie's Spirit (I Am Invincible), scoring by a nose, with Penitent (Caravaggio) another three quarters of a length back in third in the Maiden Plate over 1000 metres at Kembla Grange.

Owned and bred by Bill Ouston, Tsarina Sophia becomes the third winner out of the stakes placed Cecconi (Encosta De Lago) mare Precious Sophia.

Russian Revolution's prize money totals over $750,000 more than nearest rival The Mission (Choisir) in the Australian leading first season sires table by earnings and his nine winners put him ahead of The Mission and Heroic Valour (Fastnet Rock) in the table by winners with that duo both having sired eight winners.

The son of Snitzel (Redoute's Choice) has 17 lots catalogued to sell at the Inglis Australian Weanling Sale which begins its two-day run on Wednesday. Russian Revolution covered a book of 168 mares last season when his fee was $44,000 (inc GST) and his 2022 fee has been set at $71,500 (inc GST).
