Art Power and Frankly Darling impress at Newcastle

Frankel. Picture: Juddmonte Farms

Art Power (Dark Angel) marked himself as a potential Group performer with a dominant all the way win at Newcastle (UK) over six furlongs on Monday. Carrying a penalty for his good win in October 2019, the King Power Racing-owned colt showed a top class turn of foot of the front end to roar away to a most impressive five and a half length victory.

Art Power was a €110,000 Goffs Orby yearling purchase by SackvilleDonald in 2018 from Owenstown Stud who also bred the son of Dark Angel (Acclamation). He is out of dual Listed winner Evening Time (Keltos) who has produced three stakes performers including Group 3 winner Penny Pepper (Fast Company).

Later on the Newcastle card the John Gosden-trained Frankly Darling (Frankel) stretched away to a taking five length victory in the first division of the ten furlong maiden. Gosden often uses the Newcastle all weather course as the starting place of many of his stable stars and Frankly Darling appears destined for better things.

Frankly Darling is out of Cheshire Oaks (Listed, 1m4f) winner Hidden Hope (Daylami) who is a half-sister to Coronations Stakes (Gr 1, 1m) winner Rebecca Sharp (Machiavellian). She has a long round action and took a bit of time to fully wind up but was stretching well clear late on the testing course indicating that a step up in distance will see her placed to best advantage.
