Brother to Wild Illusion wins at Sandown
The well-bred Yibir (2 c Dubawi - Rumh by Monsun) shed his maiden tag at the third time of asking when he landed the British Stallion Studs EBF Maiden Stakes (7f) at Sandown on Sunday.
The Charlie Appleby-trained two-year-old colt finished third on debut at Newmarket on June 18, before finished fifth at the same track on his second start on July 10, but there was no mistaking the winner on Sunday as he drew away impressively to beat King Vega (Lope De Vega) by three quarters of a length with another five lengths back to Bake (Toronado) in third.
The colt is out of Listed-winning Monsun (Konigsstuhl) mare Rumh, making him a brother to multiple Group 1-winning filly Wild Illusion, while he also counts Listed winner Really Special (Shamardal) among his half-siblings.
Rumh herself is out of German Group 2 winner Royal Dubai (Dashing Blade) - who also produced Listed winner Realiza (Maxios).
Meanwhile, Royal Dubai is a half-sister to Beverly D Stakes (Gr 1, 9.5f) winner Royal Highness (Monsun), who in turn produced Group 2 winner Free Port Lux (Oasis Dream).
Dubawi (Dubai Millennium) - who stood at Darley’s Dalham Hall for a fee of £250,000 and he will be represented in Australia this season by his multiple Group 1-winning son Too Darn Hot, who will stand at Darley’s Kelvinside base for a fee of $44,000 (inc GST).
