The Adrian McGuiness-trained Current Option (4 g ex Coppertop by Exceed And Excel) prevailed in a close finish in the Platinum Stakes (Listed, 7f) at Cork on Saturday and in the process became stakes winner number 33 for former shuttler Camelot (Montjeu).

The four-year-old gelding beat Soul Search (Zoffany) by half a length with another head back to Southern Horse (Roman Ruler) in third.

The gelding was purchased by Stroud Coleman Bloodstock for 62,000gns at Book 2 of the 2017 Tattersalls October Yearling Sale Stroud and was then snapped up by Shamrock Thoroughbreds for 85,000gns at the 2019 Tattersalls July Sale.

The four-year-old is one of three winners out of placed Exceed And Excel (Danehill) mare Coppertop, who is herself a daughter of four time-winning Sadler’s Wells (Northern Dancer) mare Fresh Mint, making her a half-sister to Listed winner Canary Row (Holy Roman Emperor).

Further back Blue Diamond Prelude (F) (Gr 2, 1100m) winner Samara Dancer (Hinchinbrook) and Eclair Big Bang (Savabeel), who won the Caulfield Guineas Prelude (Gr 3, 1400m), also feature on the page.

Camelot stood in Australia for one season in 2014 and his capabilities as a stallion have been advertised by northern hemisphere-bred South Australian Derby (Gr 1, 2500m) winner Russian Camelot. The stallion stood at Coolmore’s base in Ireland for a fee of €40,000 in 2020.
