The familiar team of Archie Watson and Hollie Doyle made the trip across the channel to France worth the journey as Maystar (3 g ex Oakley Star by Multiplex) landed the Prix Moonlight Cloud (Listed, 1200m) at Deauville on Sunday and in the process handed Mayson (Invincible Spirit) with his seventh stakes winner.

The three-year-old gelding came into the race having run a disappointing seventh in the King Charles II Stakes (Listed, 7f) on July 19, but he stormed back into form on Sunday when beating Botch (Fuisse) by half a length with Galadriel (Dutch Art) coming home another length further back in third.

The gelding is out of Multiplex (Danehill) mare Oakley Star, who is herself a half-sister to Listed winner Myplacelater (Where Or When). The gelding’s third dam produced Listed winner Star Vega (Blue Ocean).

Further back this is the same family as Group 3 winners Djumama (Aussie Rules) and Barathea Guest (Barathea), who was also placed twice at Group 1 level, and Sharpa (Kurtiniadis).

Earlier in the year, Mayson became the fourth son of Invincible Spirit to sire an elite level winner, joining Yarraman Park’s I Am Invincible, Kingman and Lawman, when his son Oxted landed the July Cup (Gr 1, 6f).

Invincible Spirit stood at the Irish National Stud for a fee of €100,000 this year and he is represented in Australia by his sire sons, leading sire I Am Invincible, Cable Bay, National Defense, Shalaa and Territories, while Magna Grecia and Royal Meeting will stand their first seasons in 2020 at Coolmore Stud and Aquis Farm respectively.

Later on in the afternoon at the Curragh, Watson sent out another stakes winner when Glen Shiel (6 g Pivotal - Gonfilia by Big Shuffle) landed his second stakes victory in the Phoenix Sprint Stakes (Gr 3, 6f).
