Trainer William Haggas’ plan to add valuable blac-type to the CV of five-year-old mare Ummalnar (5 m ex Royal Secrets by Highest Honor) came to fruition on Friday evening at Dundalk as she produced a dominant performance to win the Cooley Fillies and Mares Stakes (Listed, 1m) and in the process became the 151st stakes winner for the late Darley sire Shamardal (Giant’s Causeway).

The five-year-old mare - who was having fourth start at Listed level - was last seen running third in the Fleur de Lys Fillies' Stakes (Listed, 1m) on her previous start and she pulled away impressively to beat Surrounding (Lilbourne Lad) - who was attempting to win the Listed race for the third consecutive year - by six lengths. Pretty In Grey (Brazen Beau) was another length and a half away in third.

The five-year-old mare is out of Royal Secrets (Highest Honor) making her a half-sister to Grade 1 winner Sheikhzayedroad (Dubawi).

Royals Secrets herself is a daughter of Grade 2 winner Marble Maiden (Lead On Time), who also produced Listed Vernoy (Forty Niner), while she is also the dam of Group 2 winner First City (Diktat) and Listed scorer Vandili (Court Vision).

Shamardal is represented in Australia by his sire son Puissance De Lune, who stands at Swettenham Stud for a fee of $18,000 (plus GST), while Blue Point is currently covering his first book of mares at Darley’s Northwood Park base for a fee of $44,000 (inc GST).
