Coolmore’s superstar sire Galileo (Sadler’s Wells) has been elected as the first cover for dual top-flight winner Deirdre (Harbinger), her connections revealed on Monday.

Bred by Northern Farm, Deirdre was fourth behind Soul Stirring (Frankel) in the Yushun Himba (Japanese Oaks) (Gr 1, 2400m), before adding a first elite level win to her CV in the Shuka Sho (Gr 1, 2000m), having taken out the Shion Stakes (Gr 3, 2000m) on previous start.

After victories in the Hokkaido Shimbun Hai Queen Stakes (Gr 3, 1800m) and Ireland Trophy Fuchu Himba Stakes (Gr 2, 1800m), the daughter of Harbinger (Dansili) finished a good second in the 2018 Hong Kong Cup (Gr 1, 2000m) on her first start outside her native Japan.

However, her crowning glory came when beating a high-class field in the 2019 Nassau Stakes (Gr 1, 1m2f), which she duly followed up with a fourth-placed finish in the Irish Champion Stakes (Gr 1, 1m2f), before finishing third in the Champion Stakes (Gr 1, 1m2f) at Ascot.

Deirdre is out of the placed Special Week (Sunday Silence) mare Reizend, making her a half-sister to Listed-placed Odysseus (Falbrav).

Reizend herself is a half-sister to Grade 3-winning pair Renforcer (Symboli Kris S) and Northern River (Agnes Tachyon) as well as Listed scorer Not Alone (Agnes Tachyon).

The mare’s third dam is multiple Group 1 winner Sonic Lady (Nureyev) - the dam of Group 3-winning pair Hazaam (Blushing Groom) and Sharman (Blushing Groom).

Further afield this is the same family as Group 3 scorers Furner’s Green (Dylan Thomas) and Listed winners Mystical (Halling) and Kingfisher (Galileo).
