The Cheveley Park Stud homebred Abbado (2 c ex Allegretto by Galileo) became the third winner for Cambridge Stud shuttler Almanzor (Wootton Bassett) when he broke his maiden at Chester on Friday.

Two days after Queen Trezy became the second winner for her sire on Wednesday, Abbado kept on well in the closing stages at his second career start, to score a two and a quarter length victory over Super Stars (Sea The Stars).

Abbado becomes the fifth winner out of Group One winning Galileo (Sadler’s Wells) mare Allegretto, making him a half-brother to Listed scorer Cabaletta (Mastercraftsman). The colt’s second dam is Alleluia (Caerleon), with this being the family of Group One winners Aussie Rules (Danehill), Coronet (Dubawi), Albanova (Alzao), and Galileo Chrome (Australia).

Almanzor’s first New Zealand-bred crop are two-year-olds this year and his fee this year is set at NZ$30,000 (plus GST).
