Former Darley shuttler Medaglia d’Oro (El Prado) sired his 149th stakes winner on Thursday as his son New Trails (7 g ex Issaqueena by Mr. Prospector) landed the Curlin Stakes (Listed, 2000m) at Meydan.

Last seen running sixth in the Al Maktoum Challenge Round 3 Stakes (Gr 1, 2000m) last March, the gelding had no issues with the long time off the track, finding the gap between rivals up the straight to beat Dubai Icon (New Approach) by two lengths, while Real World (Dark Angel) was another short-head away in third.

The gelding is out of winning Mr Prospector (Raise A Native) mare Issaqueena, making him a half-brother to Grade 2 winner Tizaqueena and a further four winners.

Issaqueen herself is out of Grade 3 scorer Ziggy’s Act (Danzig) - the dam of Listed scorer Charley Tango (Maria’s Mon).

Further back this is the same pedigree as Grade 3-winning trio Miss Mo Mentum (Uncle Mo), Summersault (Rock Hard Ten) and Lookin For Eight (Lookin At Lucky) as well as stakes winner Barcola (Old Trieste).

Medaglia d’Oro shuttled to Australia for eight seasons, but did not return in 2018 and he is now represented in Australia by his three sire sons, Vancouver, Astern and Nostradamus. Medaglia d’Oro is standing at Darley’s Jonabell Farm in Kentucky for a fee of US$150,000 in 2021.
