Having his third start on Saturday, La Romanee provided his Cambridge Stud-based sire Burgundy with his 3rd stakes winner when landing the Welcome Stakes (Listed) at Riccarton Park.

The Daniel Miller-trained gelding beat Showmehowitsdone by three quarters of a length whilst the 9-4 favourite, Laced With Gold, was a well-beaten fifth.

"Daniel had been very confident on how much he had improved so I'm delighted to get him across the line as it was a strong win," said winning jockey Samantha Wynne.

Burgundy's 2019 fee at Cambridge Stud was set at NZ$6,000 (plus GST) while La Romanee was a bargain NZ$22,500 purchase at the 2019 New Zealand Bloodstock Karaka Book 2 from the draft of Brighthill Farm.
