A colt from the first northern hemisphere-bred crop of Tweenhills Stud-shuttler Zoustar (Northern Meteor) proved popular on Thursday at the Tattersalls December Foal Sale after Yeomanstown Stud forked out 110,000gns for the Plantation Stud-consigned youngster.

Catalogued as Lot 738, the foal is out of the Exceed And Excel (Danehill) mare Rue Cambon, who is herself a daughter of Exciting Times (Jeune Homme).

Exciting Times herself produced nine winners headed by Grade 1 scorer Gorella (Grape Tree Road) and Grade 2 winner Royal Intervention (Exceed And Excel), while she is also the dam of Listed scorer Porto Santo (Kingsalsa).

"I have seen a lot of Zoustars, they are quite smart,” said David O'Callaghan of Yeomanstown.  “This is a fine big colt – he and the Bewitchment colt were the best two for us. We tried to buy the Bewitchment, and did not get him, but fortunately got this one. he is from a fast family and he is a tremendous walker. We will bring him back next year,"

The aforementioned Zoustar out of Bewitchment (Pivotal) was purchased earlier in the afternoon by David Howden, who went to 100,000gns for the foal.

Catalogued as Lot 691 and offered by Tweenhills Stud, the colt’s dam Bewitchment was purchased by the operation for 150,000gns Tattersalls December Mare Sale from the Fittocks Stud draft in 2018 and she holds an entry at this year’s edition and she is catalogued as Lot 1646 in foal to Zoustar again.

Bewitchment herself is out of Listed winner Hypnotize (Machiavellian), whose winners are headed by Cheveley Park (Gr 1, 6f) winner Hooray (Invincible Spirit) and Listed scorer Hypnotic (Lomitas).

Hypnotize herself is out of winning mare Belle Et Deluree (The Minstrel), who produced Group 2 scorer Dazzle (Gone West) and Listed-winning duo Baschar (Starcraft) and Fantasize (Groom Dancer).

Further back this is the same family as Group 2 winner Danehurst (Danehill) and Group 3 Humouresque (Pivotal).

A few lots later, Howden also paid Tweenhills Stud 82,000gns for a filly by the operation’s ill-fated stallion Roaring Lion (Kitten’s Joy).

Catalogued as Lot 694, the filly is a daughter of Roedean (Oratorio) and she has already produced Beepeecee (Henrythenavigator), who won six races.

Roedean herself is a sister to dual Group 3 winner Maureen (Holy Roman Emperor), while this is the same family as Group 2 winner Spinola (Spinning World), who in turn produced Group 3 winner Dorcia (Henrythenavigator) and Listed scorer Kirkinola (Selkirk).

The pair will be returning to board at Tweenhills and have been purchased as racing prospects.

"David has seen all the foals at the farm and particularly loved those two," reported Redvers. "They will race in his colours. David is very enthusiastic, and got into racing two years ago. He also bought a number of yearlings in the autumn."
