Oklahoma Girl (Fastnet Rock) was the headline act of the Inglis Australian Broodmare Sale on Sunday as Anthony Mithen’s Rosemont Hanseatic Syndicate purchased the three-time winning daughter of Fastnet Rock (Danehill) for $350,000 and she now looks set to be covered by the operation’s new stallion Hanseatic (Street Boss) this upcoming spring.

Catalogued as Lot 486 and consigned by Coolmore Stud on behalf of her breeders the Ingham Family, the mare was offered in foal to Widden Stud-based sire Zoustar (Northern Meteor), having previously produced a filly by Arrowfield Stud shuttler Maurice (Screen Hero), who was purchased by Yap Kai Tak via the 2020 Inglis Digital October Sale, while her second foal was a colt by Nicconi (Bianconi).

As well as winning three times on the track, Oklahoma Girl also finished second in The Roses (Gr 2, 2000m) in 2017, before running third behind stablemate Egg Tart (Sebring) in the Queensland Derby (Gr 1, 2200m).

The mare is out of four time-winning Encosta De Lago (Fairy King) mare Shawnee Girl, making her a half-sister to Group 3 scorer Sure Knee (Snitzel).

The filly’s third dam is Listed-placed mare Explosive (Fappiano) - the dam of Group 1 winner and the ill-fated successful stallion Northern Meteor (Encosta De Lago) and Group 3 winner Queen Of The Hill (Danehill).

Meanwhile, Explosive also produced Comical Smile (Comic Strip) and she is the dam of Group 2 winner and now Twin Hills-based sire Smart Missile (Fastnet Rock) and Listed-winning duo Surge Ahead (Danehill Dancer) and Kiss From A Rose (Encosta De Lago).

“It is a lovely mating and she is a lovely mare with a quality family behind her,” said Mithen. “From any stud’s point of view you want to own those mares.

“I am looking forward to seeing the Zoustar foal, he just keeps going from strength to strength as a sales horse and every second yearling by Zoustar that is offered at the sale seems to make $1 million! It’s a really exciting family to be involved with.

“She’s a ripper. It’s a great family and they’re the sorts of broodmares - by a great broodmare sire and great sire in general in Fastnet Rock - we should be adding to our collection and giving our new boy Hanseatic a good chance with.”

Fastnet Rock is carving a name for himself as a good broodmare sire, with 42 of his daughters producing stakes winners, headed by Group 1-winning trio, Santa Ana Lane (Lope De Vega), Gytrash (Lope De Vega) and Tivaci (High Chaparral).

Coolmore’s Paddy Oman said: “She’s a beautiful mare, raised on the farm by the Ingham family and it is a family that just keeps producing good horses.

“We’re very grateful to Nigel, Anthony and the team at Rosemont for their support. They are great friends of ours and hopefully she’s lucky for them.”

Coolmore Stud finished the day as the second leading vendors by aggregate, selling 15 mares for a gross of $1,251,000 at an average of $83,400, while Segenhoe Stud were crowned the leading vendors by aggregate selling all 13 of their offerings for an aggregate of $1,335,000 and they finished with an average of $102,692.

Mithen and the Rosemont Stud team have been sourcing mares all week to support their new stallion Hanseatic, who will stand his first season at the Vicorian farm for a fee of $17,600 (inc GST).

During Friday’s Chairman’s Sale the syndicate spent $1,380,000 on three mares to support their new recruit, headed by Listed-winning Not A Single Doubt (Redoute’s Choice) mare From Within, who they paid Newhaven Park Stud $800,000 for.

Earlier on the day on Sunday, the syndicate also purchased Meiji (Strategic) for $38,000 and she too will be covered by the son of Street Boss (Street Cry).

Catalogued as Lot 464 and offered by Yarraman Park, the mare is a sister to Group 3 winner Alichi and a half-sister to Listed winner Kinshachi (Commands). She was offered in foal to Vinery Stud-based first-season sire Star Turn (Star Witness).

On the overall week of action, Mithen added: “It’s been unreal. It’s a fantastic facility and I was only thinking this morning coming down from the room and how easy it all is here.

“It’s horse heaven here at Riverside in terms of its sophistication and state-of-the-art build and we’re privileged to have functions and sales like Friday nights to attend and give everyone a party.’’
