A filly by former shuttler Uncle Mo (Indian Charlie) topped the opening session of the Fasig-Tipton New York Bred Yearlings on Sunday when bought by Dream Maker Racing for US$495,000.

Sold as Lot 341 by Thomas J Gallo III Sales Agency, the filly, is out of winning Distorted Humor (Forty Niner) mare Averymerrymoment, who has produced six winners from as many foals to race.

"It was an outstanding opening night for the 2021 New York Bred sale," said Fasig-Tipton president Boyd Browning. "It was a really strong marketplace and a diverse group of buyers that participated."

"It was a really encouraging start," Browning added. "We're looking forward to picking up the momentum [tomorrow]."

Over the course of the evening, 62 yearlings sold for US$6,497,500, up 8.8 per cent from the first session of 2019 (the last time this sale was held), when 66 yearlings sold for US$5,972,500.

The average for Sunday's session was US$104,798, up 15.8 per cent from US$90,492 in 2019. The median was US$80,000, up 6.7 per cent from US$75,000 in 2019.
