Spendthrift Farm’s Into Mischief was represented by his ninth Grade 1 winner on Saturday when Mischevious Alex (4 c ex White Pants Night by Speightstown) won the Carter Handicap (Gr 1, 7f) at Aqueduct.

Breaking well from the gates, Mischevious Alex raced in fourth, one off the rail in the five runner field. He quickened approaching the home turn and moved up. On straightening he ran on impressively in the straight to score a five and a quarter length victory. Mind Control (Stay Thirsty) finished in second with another length back to Souper Stonehenge (Speightstown) in third.

“I was a little concerned early in the race. He was a little far back and I know the track has been heavy and I didn’t know if he could make up that much ground,” said winning trainer Saffie Joseph Jr.

“He ran well, but I didn’t expect him to win a Grade One as easy as he did. I have a lot of respect for the competition.”

Mischevious Alex is the only winner out of winning Speightstown (Gone West) mare White Pants Night who is a half-sister to Grade 3 winner Hebbronville (Majesticperfection) and Listed winning pair Master Of Disaster (Dance Master) and A Day For Dancing (Dance Master).

Spendthrift Farm’s Into Mischief currently leads the stallion table in the USA / Canada by earnings with prize money of US$4,942,691, over US$1,700,000 clear of Paynter (Awesome Again). He is covering a full book of mares this season with his fee having been advertised at US$225,000.
