17 Grade 1 winner winner for Candy Ride
Saturday’s Santa Anita Derby (Gr 1, 9f) was won by Rock Your World (3 c ex Charm The Maker by Empire Maker) who became the 17th Grade 1 winner for his Lanes End-based sire Candy Ride (Ride The Rails).
Rock Your World was taken to the front by jockey Umberto Rispoli. Approaching the home turn, Rock Your World was asked to quicken and on straightening, he showed an impressive turn of foot to pull away to a four and a quarter length victory. Medina Spirit (Protonico) finished in second with another two and a quarter lengths back to Dream Shake (Twirling Candy) in third.
Trained by John Sadler Rock Your World was purchased by bloodstock agent David Ingordo for US$650,000 in the name of Sapphire Stable at the 2019 Keeneland September Yearling Sale from the consignment of Winter Quarter Farm. He is one of two winners out of Listed winner and Grade 1 placed mare Charm The Maker (Empire Maker) who is a daughter of Grade 3 winner Charm The Giant (Giant’s Causeway).
