Magic Millions announced that its $250,000 WA 2YO Classic and $150,000 3YO Trophy races which both hold Restricted Listed status have been programmed for the Pinjarra meeting on Sunday February 7.

The annual WA Race Series events complement the Magic Millions Perth Yearling Sale and provide rewarding returns to owners and trainers who purchase and sell yearlings at Magic Millions sales.

There will be a significant prizemoney increase for the Magic Millions WA 3YO Trophy, rising to $150,000.

“Magic Millions wholeheartedly supports the growth of the thoroughbred breeding and racing industry in WA,” said Magic Millions Managing Director Vin Cox.

“To have $400,000 in prizemoney on offer over two Magic Millions races conducted at a quality racetrack near the prominent training locations of Lark Hill and Bunbury and be within easy access from Ascot, is a win for all local industry participants.

The Pinjarra Park course is located in the Peel region 85km south-west of Perth in close proximity to a number of leading breeders in the Serpentine area.

Pinjarra Race Club chairman Phil Ibbotson has embraced the opportunity of the new partnership with Magic Millions.

“This is a huge opportunity for our club going forward,” he said.

“We are very excited to be working with Magic Millions to build the race day as a vehicle to showcase the entire Western Australian thoroughbred industry.”

Magic Millions and Pinjarra Race Club will work in conjunction with Racing & Wagering Western Australia with a view to developing the raceday as a feature race meeting each season.

The concept has been endorsed by RWWA and is a strategy which Magic Millions has worked successfully with provincial clubs in other states.

“Enhancing the racing program in regional areas is a key strategy of RWWA and the Magic Millions raceday at Pinjarra provides a fantastic opportunity to present our premium product to residents in the wider Peel region,” said RWWA racing manager David Hunter.

With the venue change to Pinjarra the Magic Millions WA 2YO Classic will now be run over 1200m (previously 1100m).

The distance of the Magic Millions WA 3YO Trophy will remain at 1200m in 2016 but will be reviewed for future years.

The 2016 Magic Millions Perth Yearling Sale will be held on 15-16 February.
