Poet's Word Retired To Nunnery Stud

Multiple Group One winner Poet’s Word has been retired and will stand under the Shadwell banner at Nunnery Stud.

The 5YO Poet’s Word (Poet’s Voice x Whirly Bird by Nashwan) won this year’s G1 Prince Of Wales’s Stakes and G1 King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes double and was second in the in the G1 Juddmonte International for trainer Sir Michael Stoute.

Stoute revealed last month that Poet’s Word had picked up an injury that would rule him out of the rest of the season.

Poet’s Word, a 300,000gns Tattersalls October yearling, is a half brother to the dual G3 winner Malabar (Raven’s Pass) as well as the dam of G2 winner Beckford (Bated Breath).

His sire Poet’s Voice was showing promise with his early crops before his sudden death at Dalham Hall Stud earlier this year.

Kentucky’s Claiborne Farm has released stud fees for its 12 stallions for the 2019 breeding season.

Claiborne, the historic home of the legendary Secretariat, confirmed that War Front’s fee will remain at $US250,000 next year.

War Front, who is among the top 10 most expensive sires in the world, has sired 29 black-type horses in 2018 including top-flight winners US Navy Flag, Lancaster Bomber, Fog Of War and Homesman.

The other standout sire on the roster is Eclipse champion and three-time G1 winner Blame, who boasts 14 stakes winners in 2018 including G1 winners Fault and Marley's Freedom.

His fee will be announced after the Breeders' Cup next month.

Gainesway Farm has announced that three-time US champion sire Tapit will stand for a fee of $US225,000 in 2019 - down from $300,000.

Tapit’s book will again be limited to 125 mares. Tapit is the sire of 24 G1 winners and seven champions.

G1-winning sprinter Havana Grey (Havana Gold) will join the Whitsbury Manor Stud roster for the 2019 breeding season.

The colt won six of his 15 career starts including the G1 Flying Five Stakes in September.

British filly Sheikha Reika (Shamardal x Screen Star by Tobougg) posted a brave performance to win the G1 EP Taylor Stakes at Woodbine in Canada on Saturday, providing her former Darley shuttle sire Shamardal with his 21st G1 winner.

Trained by Roger Varian, the three-year-old filly was bred by Mark Johnston Racing and purchased by her trainer for 550,000 guineas at the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale.
