Final figures fell slightly when the four-day Arqana October Yearling Sale came to an end.

The overall average price for the four days of trading was €40,345, 3.6 per cent lower than last year’s record-breaking returns.

The clearance rate was down to 79 per cent with a smaller catalogue resulting in gross turnover of €18,236,000, 11 per cent down from 2017.

US owner George Bolton, who raced noted G1 stars Lady Aurelia and Contributer, was a leading figurte with his adviser Kerri Radcliffe. They went to €360,000 to secure a Siyouni filly on Day One after he had added to his European string at Book 1 of the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale where he acquire a filly by No Nay Never for 650,000gns.

Shadwell continued its spending spree. After being top buyer at Book 2 of the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale, Sheikh Hamdan's operation secured two lots for a total spend of €460,000.

Consensus on the sales ground was mixed as to the overall strength of trade.
