Starting the rank outsider the 7YO Lonhro gelding settled at the tail of the field and was still four lengths last at the half way point but eventually ran out the winner with a panel to spare for his first stakes win.

Jolly Banner now boasts a record of seven wins and 12 placings from 29 starts for $A1.75 million in prizemoney.

Jolly Banner is out of the Jade Robbery mare Valkyrie Diva and was bred in Victoria by Tony Santic’s Makybe Racing and Breeding.

Makybe is having a magic run in Hong Kong after the home-bred Mr Stunning, won the G1 Hong Kong Sprint in December.

Jolly Banner is a half brother to the stakes winners C’est Beau la Vie and Wales.

His Group winning dam is a half sister to Santic’s immortal mare Makybe Diva.

Jolly Banner was offered by Tyreel Stud at the 2013 Australian Easter Yearling Sale where he was knocked down to Hong Kong trainer Yiu for $300,000.
