The high level of black type success enjoyed by Australian-breds racing in Malaysia continued in Sunday's Perak Gold Vase.
The domestic Group One event has been captured seven times in the last 10 runnings by Australian-breds while Australian sourced winners at Malaysia's elite level since the start of 2018 have included Truson, Stick Seeker, Ready To Rock and D'Great Timing.
This time the evergreen Volcanic General, who has led the charge in recent seasons, notched his sixth Malaysian G1 success.
The flashy grey produced a dominant performance over the 1100m despite being first up from his third successive G1 Tunku Gold Cup victory in March.
Prior to shipping to Malaysia in 2016 Volcanic General – then racing for Melbourne trainer Mick Price as Volcanic Ash – won twice at Cranbourne along with successive races at Caulfield among five Australian wins.
He has since added another six wins in Malaysia.
Volcanic General is among 19 stakes winners for the Sun Stud based sire Magnus, a G1 winning sprinter and half-brother to the dam of Black Caviar.
Volcanic General was bred by Rob Crabtree who also bred and raced Magnus and Volcanic General's dam Silverbeat.
Crabtree also raced Silverbeat's Group winning dam Zasu Rhythm.
A stakes placed 2YO, Silverbeat has produced four stakes winners from five to race led by Melbourne G2 winners Upbeat and Bella Martini and Adelaide Guineas winner Alpha Beat.
KARAKA graduate Kante came out on top in a tight three-way finish to the Listed Malaysia 3YO Championship Final at Perak on Sunday.The $NZ85,000 NZB Ready to Run Sale purchase by Postponed from Strengthened quickened stylishly in the straight, surging through in between the two leaders, and he claimed top honours by a neck in a desperate battle to the finish.
Kante was the least experienced runner, lining up for just his second career appearance.
The Evert Van Breukelen-trained runner now boasts a perfect two-from-two record and has earned more than NZ$54,000.
A close relative of the multiple G1-winning sprinter Atomic Force (Danehill Dancer), Kante was bought at Karaka by Ooi Tang Beng and Mrs Chew Siew Ean. They selected him from the draft of Westbury Stud.
