Fastnet Rock’s son Stryker sired his first NZ stakes winner when the G2 Great Northern Guineas at Ellerslie on New Year’s Day was taken out by the Australian-bred Rangipo.

Rangipo could join an illustrious list of previous GN Guineas winners to go on to success at the top level, not the least being last year’s winner Mongolian Khan who went on to the G1 NZ Derby, G1 Australian Derby and G1 Caulfield Cup.

Rangipo (Stryker x Holloway Castle, by Zabeel) took his record to four wins from eight starts and with four of the last five winners of the Great Northern Guineas graduating to G1 success, trainer Tony Pike is confident that his quality galloper is capable of joining that list.

Rangipo is a member of the first Australian-bred crop by Stryker, a G3-winner and G1 placed son of Fastnet Rock who now boasts four stakes perfomers including the Listed winner Strykum.

Bred by Sledmere Stud and sold through the draft of Segenhoe Stud, Stryker was purchased by Ingham Racing for $600,000 and had the honour of being the first stakes winner trained by Chris Waller for the Ingham family in the Listed Heritage Stakes.

This week’s Magic Millions Yearling Sale features four lots by Stryker.
