Bargain priced Mastercraftsman mare Danzdanzdance blew her rivals away when she added a second successive Group One win in the Zabeel Classic at Ellerslie on Boxing Day.

The winner of the G1 Captain Cook Stakes at Trentham at her previous start delivered a similar dominant performance to score by 3.5 lengths from G1 winner Lizzie L’Amour. The G1 ATC Derby winner Jon Snow was a distant third, 8.5 lengths away, in his final career start.

Danzdanzdance (Mastercraftsman x Night Danza by Danzero) was bred at Blandford Lodge by Grahame and Helen-Gaye Bax. Their daughter Kylie Bax bought her back at the NZB Karaka Select Sale in 2016 for only $NZ5000 and then syndicated the filly.

“It’s a real thrill for the whole family, we’re excited about it all,” Graham Bax said. “They are a great bunch of owners with some newbies to the game – I don’t think they know what they’ve got.”

Danzdanzdance is out of the unraced Night Danza, a daughter of the multiple winner and G1 South Australian Oaks runner-up Gretchen (Bahhare).

She is a half-sister to the G2 winner Silky Red Boxer (Casual Lies) and to the dam of triple G1 winner Lucia Valentina (Savabeel).

Danzdanzdance, trained at Ruakaka by Chris Gibbs and Michelle Bradley, has now had 11 starts for four wins, four placings and $436,713 prize-money – more than 87 times her purchase price.

Danzdanzdance had previously placed in the G1 New Zealand Derby, G1 Livamol Classic and G2 Avondale Guineas.

Blandford Lodge enjoyed a memorable day when their Medaglia D';Oro product Zalatte won at Randwick on Boxing Day.

Zalatte was bought out of Blandford’s Karaka draft for NZ$300,000.

She is a daughter of the Zabeel mare Za Star from the family of the three-time G1 winner Lucia Valentina (Savabeel).
