History Repeats In Desert Gold Stakes

3 minute read

History repeated for the same owners, trainer and jockey as last year’s winner Dijon Bleu when the Zacinto filly Secret Allure won the G3 Desert Gold Stakes at Trentham.

Dijon Bleu (Burgundy) went on to win the NZ Filly of the Year title, clinching it with victory in the G2 Sir Tristram Fillies’ Classic at Te Rapa and Secret Allure will be given the chance to emulate her.

Secret Allure (Zacinto x Secret Scent by O’Reilly) was a $36,000 purchase at the 2017 NZB Select Sale at Karaka and now sits in second place on the New Zealand Bloodstock Filly of the Year Series standings.

Lisa Latta trains both fillies for the same syndicate and they have been ridden by Leith Innes.

A winner at Listed level last season, Secret Allure had already made her mark in the Filly of the Year Series with a second placing in the G2 Royal Stakes and fourth in the G1 NZ 1000 Guineas.

Secret Allure collected another six points for Saturday’s win, moving her to 10 points and second place on the Filly of the Year Series table behind Media Sensation (I Am Invincible). Valalie is next with 8.5 points while Pinmedown (Pins), Imelda Mary (Ferlax) and Queen Of Diamonds (Savabeel) have eight points each.

The next leg of the Filly of the Year Series is the Sir Tristram Fillies’ Classic at Te Rapa on February 9.

A Shooting To Win half-brother to Secret Allure will be offered by Inglewood Stud during Book 1 at the NZB National Yearling Sale at Karaka.
