Japanese star Staphanos will join the roster after an outstanding career that saw win as a juvenile, record a trio of victories as a 3YO including a win over subsequent Japanese Horse of the Year Maurice and win the G1 Queen Elizabeth II Cup (2000m) in Hong Kong as a 4YO.

Staphanos returned to Japan to finish second in the 2015 Tenno Sho and in his five and six-year-old seasons he recorded a further three placings at G1 level including a third in the 2016 Hong Kong Cup (2000m).

Staphanos wil take the place of the late Jakkalberry, who was the foundation stallion at Novara Park Stud.

The seven-year-old will stand for a service fee of $NZ7000 (+GST).

Staphanos raced raced 31 times with 25 of those outings at Group level for four wins and 10 placings.

His dam Kokoshnik (Kurofune) hails from the immediate family of New Zealand Great Northern Oaks winner Catania.

Kokoshnik is the dam of four other winners including the stakes-placed Finift (Deep Impact).

His Listed-winning granddam Gold Tiara (Seeking The Gold) is a half-sister to the late shuttle sire Poet’s Voice (Dubawi).
