Ygritte Gets The Timing Right At Gosford

3 minute read

Snitzel filly Ygritte delivered a perfectly timed reminder for Easter Sale buyers when she won Thursday's $150,000 Gosford Guineas.

The filly, trained by Gerald Ryan for owner Carl Holt, is the 30th career stakeswinner by Snitzel, who is fifth on the current Australian General Sires' list with $5.2 million prizemoney.

Snitzel, who has an imposing list of entries in the catalogue for next week’s Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale at Newmarket, has sired nine Australian stakeswinners this season include two new G1 winners Wandjina and Sweet Idea, both bred and sold by Arrowfield Stud.

Ygritte was purchased by Kitchwin Hills for $135,000 from Arrowfield's draft at the 2013 Inglis Classic Sale.

The Listed Gosford Guineas (1200m) was only Ygritte's second win but her 11-starts include five Group placings behind top-class talent such as Hallowed Crown, Mossfun and Eloping.

She is set to tackle Group 3 company again at her likely next start, in the ATC J.H.B. Carr Stakes on 18 April.

Ygritte is one of several quality fillies in her immediate family.

Her year-older sibling My Sister Lil is a stakeswinner in Perth, and their dam Deputy Lil (French Deputy) is a half-sister to G1-placed stakeswinner Estee.

Deputy Lil died in 2013 after leaving a third filly to Not A Single Doubt in 2012. That filly, named My Girl Lil, was bought by Sunshine Coast trainer Stuart Kendrick for $70,000 from last year's Inglis Classic Sale.

Ygritte's second dam is the three-time G1 winner and New Zealand Horse of the Year Tycoon Lil.

Arrowfield and Katsumi Yoshida continue to breed from Tycoon Lil's daughter Empress Lily who has a Redoute's Choice filly in the stud's consignment for next week's Easter Sale.

Arrowfield's Easter draft includes two fillies and four colts by Snitzel.
