Dixie Blossoms was overdue for success at the top level after previously winning four Group races.

The 6YO is also the fourth Coolmore Classic winner trained by Quinton, Sydney’s former champion jockey who also rode two winners of the race before he turned to training.

Bred and raced by Alan Osburg Dixie Blossoms (Street Sense x Whistle Dixie by Star Way) has won seven of her 30 starts for prizemoney of $1,363,910.

Osburg bought Dixie Blossom’s dam Whistle Dixie, by Star Way, for NZ$50,000 at New Zealand Bloodstock’s National Yearling Sale.

Dixie Blossoms is one of four winners from Whistle Dixie that also include the Falbrav gelding Excel, a Listed winner in Macau who previously won in Australia as Able Green.

Whistle Dixie is a half-sister to six winners including two stakes performers from the Kappastad mare Proteaceae, an unraced half-sister to G1 NZ Derby winner Zonda (Zabeel) and G2 winner Magnolia Hall (Noble Bijou).

Street Sense, by Winx’s late sire Street Cry, is standing at Jonabell Farm in Kentucky.

Owner-breeder Alan Osburg paid tribute to the part Quinton has played in the mare’s career.

“Ron deserves to be proud, he loves the mare like one of his family,” he said.

“Ron says she’s one of the most intelligent horses he’s ever trained.

“She was going to retire last year but I thought we’ll have one more go at cracking a Group 1 and it’s mission accomplished now.

“I bred her off a low service fee and a little mare I bought in New Zealand. It’s so satisfying to do it yourself.”

She won only one race before she was retired.
