Listed Win For Scone Sale Bargain

3 minute read

Value is where you find it, the adage that led Victorian trainer Richard Laming to purchase a yearling colt by Rubick for just $3000 at the Scone sale in 2018.

The bargain buy now races as Condo's Express for a group of Laming's friends and took his earnings in only five starts to more than $175,000 when he won the Listed Mitchell McKenzie Stakes at Moonee Valley last Saturday.

The second stakes winner by young sire Rubick, Condo's Express is the first foal to race from the Elusive Quality mare Braided, a half-sister to the South African Group performer Wild Ash (Dylan Thomas).

Condo's Express is the second stakes winner for Rubick, joining the G2 Todman Stakes winner Yes Yes Yes. Second season sire Rubick has been represented by 21 winners from his first 56 runners.

Condo's Express began his career with three second placings on country tracks before a city win at Moonee Valley on August 3 that set him up for Saturday's classy win over 1200m.

Akeed Mofeed's promising sprinter Assertive Approach registered his second stakes win in five career starts in the Listed Carlyon Stakes at Moonee Valley.

The winner of the Listed Lightning Stakes in Adelaide sped over the 1000m for his fourth career win with a start in the G1 Moir Stakes now on his agenda..

Assertive Approach is the first stakes winner by former Hong Kong champion Akeed Mofeed, who stood in South Australia before he was relocated to Swettenham Stud in Victoria this year.

Akeed Mofeed is the sire of 22 winners from only 46 runners to date with Assertive Approach the first winner from the stakes-placed Choisir mare Arrival.

Arrival is a three-quarter sister to multiple G3 winner Tuscan Sling (Danehill Dancer).
